Jan Kochanowski

The main character of this production is the Actor. He appears on the stage and reads an
inscription on an imaginary grave: “Orszula Kochanowska lies here…” He found his subject matter. He calls for the Muse to come and he in turn gets into the right mood. In fact he transforms into Jan Kochanowski. He is accompanied by a woman who exists only in his imagination. She personifies the Muse, then Niobe, Urszulka and his wife. Finally she is the poet’s mother who came from heaven to comfort him and help him find a sense of life.
The spectacle shows a suffering man in all his human dimensions – his madness, utter despair, grievance, numbness, struggle to find a way out, mutiny, irony, cynicism and a Christian hope of meeting in heaven his dead daughter.
